Cut Cleaning Costs
There are many things you can do to cut down your cleaning budget…
Mild dish soap and water can clean most surfaces in your home, it’s not always necessary to buy special expensive cleaners for things like laundry stains or carpet spills.
Maintain the clean home… Cleaning smaller messes more frequently will reduce the need for the tougher cleaners that often cost much more than a mild dish soap.
Buy multi-purpose cleaners, you really don’t need a different cleaner for every different surface in your home (if so you’re cupboards would be overflowing with bottle and bottles). Also, buy generic! Most generic items are just as effective and efficient as a name brand and are usually a few dollars less.
Avoid disposable items like paper towels or the mops with disposable pads. I’ll agree, they are far more convenient, but as we all know, convenience can be costly. SO use a good old fashioned mop where you can rinse the mop head off and re-use. Instead of paper towels, I use old rags or T-Shirts for cleaning, it will not only provide a free cloth but also reduces the waste.
Make your own cleaners with items you already have around the house. For your carpets, a little water, vinegar and laundry detergent will lift a stain right up. White vinegar is also great for cleaning the toilet! Olive oil works wonder on wood, not only to cleanse but also moisturize! Lemon dipped in Kosher Salt makes for a great way to scrub your sink (and it smells fresh and clean). A mixture of white vinegar and water will give your glass and windows a clean shine.
